Mosab Hassan Yousef is the son of Sheikh Hassan Yousef, a founding member of Hamas. He was raised within Hamas and groomed for leadership, before secretly becoming an informant for Shin Bet (Israeli internal security service) from 1997 to 2007 — a period during which his intelligence is credited with preventing numerous suicide bombings and assassinations. He later converted to Christianity, defected to the United States, and wrote Son of Hamas (2010), one of the most detailed insider accounts of the organization's operations and ideology. He was granted asylum in the US in 2010 after the Israeli government confirmed his role as an asset. He is now a public speaker and commentator on Hamas, Palestinian society, and radical Islam, and has testified that Hamas does not represent the Palestinian people but exploits them. His direct quote — "We are not indigenous. We are occupiers" — referring to Hamas's own ideology of conquest rather than native return — is documented.
