Ayaan Hirsi Ali
OtherAyaan Hirsi Ali is a Somali-Dutch-American author, activist, and former member of the Dutch Parliament. Born in Somalia and raised Muslim, she fled an arranged marriage to the Netherlands, where she became a politician and screenwriter (her collaboration with filmmaker Theo van Gogh, "Submission," led to van Gogh's murder by an Islamist in 2004 and death threats against Hirsi Ali that forced her to live under permanent security detail). She later moved to the United States and became a fellow at the Hoover Institution. She is the author of "Infidel" (2007), "Heretic" (2015), and "Prey" (2021). Her first-hand experience with forced marriage, female genital mutilation, political Islam, and immigration from African and Middle Eastern countries to the West makes her a primary source — not merely an analyst — on these topics. She recently announced conversion to Christianity.
